Grades 1-4 Class Offerings

Current K - 3rd Graders

All classes offered in Summer Experience fit within Academic, STEAM, Arts, and Skills pathways.

ACADEMIC : Mathematics, Math in Spanish* and English / Spanish Language Arts:* Grade level instructional standards. Placement in these classes are by  testing data and teacher recommendation, and are for students who have demonstrated academic need during the school year.
*Spanish instruction is for 1st and 2nd grade students attending Baywood and Pacheco schools.
 

STEAM / SCIENCE & ENGINEERING : STEAM classes integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into a cohesive learning experience. These classes encourage hands-on learning, critical thinking, and creativity. Students solve real-world problems while developing skills in innovation and collaboration. STEAM education fosters well-rounded thinkers who are prepared for a variety of career paths in a rapidly evolving world.

ARTS :  Art classes offer a diverse exploration of creativity across multiple disciplines, including Culinary Arts, Visual Arts, Fine Arts, and Performing Arts. Students engage in hands-on learning experiences that encourage artistic expression, technique development, and cultural appreciation.

SKILLS/SPORTS : Classes provide an engaging exploration of physical activity, fitness, and the human body's systems involved in exercise. Students participate in a variety of games and sports developing coordination, strength, and teamwork. Classes also emphasize the physiological aspects of fitness.

Students will build upon learning experiences from previous years within each pathway.

We hope to offer all classes listed, however actual classes will depend on student interest and teacher availability.

Fine & Visual Arts

Brushstrokes and Beyond

Students will  learn elements of art including drawing, painting, and 3-dimensional design.

Students will be introduced to basic elements and principles of visual art, such as line, shape/form, space, balance and emphasis. Students explore works by renowned artists and study elements of their design.

More advanced students will get the chance to build upon their existing skills.

Culinary Creators

Our culinary class follows a standards-based curriculum for elementary to high school students to explore the interactions between food, culture, health, and the environment through interactive cooking and gardening lessons. At the heart of this dynamic and joyful learning experience, the focus is to educate young students on growing, preparing, and eating healthy food, and empower them to become environmental stewards.

Success on Stage

Students will participate in theater / performance art games, lessons, and exercises to develop stage skills including expression, speaking in front of a group, improvisation, voice projection, pantomime, and singing.  Elements of music and dance may be incorporated.

STEAM - Science & Engineering

Three children are actively participating in a classroom project, demonstrating teamwork and creativity in their work.

Environmental Engineers

1st & 2nd grade students will engage in hands-on design and building activities that foster critical thinking skills and explore the natural world through life cycles, weather, animal habitats, and the food web.

3rd & 4th grade students will investigate elements of our environment with hands-on activities that explore topics such as paleontology, rocket building, conservation, and how natural disasters affect our world.

 

Little Legends Learning Lab

1st & 2nd grade students will solve real world challenges through physical play that teaches the foundations of coding and will explore science and engineering through hands-on learning using iInnovate STEAM kits.

 

Powering the Future

3rd & 4th grade students will  become green energy experts by building with science kits and exploring wind energy, magnets, and solar power.

Sports & Wellness

Busy Bodies

Students will participate in a variety of games including soccer, basketball, and field games.  This is a great class for students who like to be active, and play fun and engaging games.  Fundamental skills of each sport will be covered and students will get to develop their skills in a positive environment emphasizing sportsmanship.


Students will learn about the systems of the human body and learn about the science behind how exercise affects us. By combining physical activity with knowledge of anatomy and health, this class promotes lifelong wellness, teaching students how to stay active and healthy while understanding the science behind movement.

Students learning language and speaking skills

English Language Arts

Students will learn the core concepts and skills of English Language Arts.  Students will spend time practicing reading and writing strategies that lie within their grade level band of core instructional standards. 

Dual Immersion Spanish Language Arts 

This class is for current Baywood and Pacheco Kinder and 1st grade students learning through Spanish-English Dual Language Immersion.

Mathematics

Students will participate in a unique blend of problem solving and skill building activities that reinforce essential mathematical concepts needed for success inside and outside the classroom. 

Dual Immersion Math

This math class will be taught in Spanish and is for current Kinder and 1st grade Baywood and Pacheco students learning through Spanish-English Dual Language Immersion.
