Grades 1-4 Class Offerings
Current K - 3rd Graders
All classes offered in Summer Experience fit within Academic, STEAM, Arts, and Skills pathways.
ACADEMIC : Mathematics and English / Spanish Language Arts:* Grade level instructional standards. Placement in these classes are by and teacher recommendation, and are for students who have demonstrated academic need during the school year.
*Spanish instruction is for 1st and 2nd grade students attending Baywood and Pacheco schools.
STEAM / SCIENCE & ENGINEERING : STEAM classes integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics into a cohesive learning experience. These classes encourage hands-on learning, critical thinking, and creativity. Students solve real-world problems while developing skills in innovation and collaboration. STEAM education fosters well-rounded thinkers who are prepared for a variety of career paths in a rapidly evolving world.
ARTS : Art classes offer a diverse exploration of creativity across multiple disciplines, including Culinary Arts, Visual Arts, Fine Arts, and Performing Arts. Students engage in hands-on learning experiences that encourage artistic expression, technique development, and cultural appreciation.
SKILLS/SPORTS : Classes provide an engaging exploration of physical activity, fitness, and the human body's systems involved in exercise. Students participate in a variety of games and sports developing coordination, strength, and teamwork. Classes also emphasize the physiological aspects of fitness.
Students will build upon learning experiences from previous years within each pathway.
We hope to offer all classes listed, however actual classes will depend on student interest and teacher availability.
Fine & Visual Arts
Art Explorers
Students get to know the world of visual art with hands-on projects where they will discover the secret ingredients of art using drawing, painting, and 3D materials. Elements (color, line, and shape) and principles (balance) of art will be explored. Students will check out amazing work by famous artists, then use their brilliant ideas to inspire their own creations. If a student is already a pro, our instructors come ready to challenge their skills!
Kitchen Explorers: A Culinary Adventure
Get ready for a super fun and tasty adventure! This class is specially designed for rising 3rd and 4th graders who love to eat and are curious about food. In this exciting, hands-on cooking class, students won't just follow recipes—they'll become real Kitchen Explorers! They will discover how delicious foods connect us to different cultures and traditions, learn how food is connected to our health and the environment, while applying practical food preparation skills and techniques, just like professional chefs! From chopping safely to mixing perfectly, they'll learn how to confidently create their own meals.
On-Stage Achievers
Our fun and friendly performing arts class for elementary students is all about letting imagination soar! Students will play exciting theater games and participate in engaging exercises that help learn key stage skills without feeling nervous. Students master how to speak clearly, project their voices, explore different ways to express themselves, and jump into funny improv scenes where anything can happen! Music and dance activities keep you moving and grooving. Students will build confidence, make friends, and shine brightly on stage!
STEAM - Science & Engineering
Code, Construct, Connect!
1st & 2nd grade students will become Master Builders by designing and constructing large structures, while exploring the engineering design process to improve the world around them. Students will also transform into Tinkerers, experimenting with gears to explore concepts like speed, direction, and force. They will utilize Bee-Bots to solve real-world problems through fun, foundational coding challenges.
Earth Explorers & Space Superstars
This exciting STEAM class for rising 1st and 2nd graders is all about Space and the world around us. Students will launch into action with fun challenges like designing and launching straw rockets while learning how things move in the real world by investigating concepts like force in motion and mass in movement. Students will use LEGO Science kits to build models that explore Space and Earth, applying problem-solving and design skills to investigate key principles of physical science.
Code Masters- Engineering with Dash & Lego
In this STEAM class, students explore the intersection of science and technology through hands-on projects. Using LEGO Education Science kits, students will dive into Science and Engineering by building models and then exploring how they can solve real life problems related to their models. In the second part of the session, students will learn fundamental coding skills. By programming their Dash robots to complete missions and overcome obstacles, students will practice design thinking, logical sequencing, and collaborative innovation in an exciting and dynamic environment.
Skills & Sports
Kid-Preneurs: Toy Inventors & Business Bosses
Students can get ready to stretch their creative muscles and become real business bosses! This interactive class dives into the exciting world of Entrepreneurship. Students start by discovering what an entrepreneur is and how they use empathy and design thinking to solve problems. Students get hands-on as they prototype and build brand-new toys. Through fun challenges, they learn about iteration (making things better each time), conducting market research to see what people want, and practicing how to create an effective pitch to convince customers. Finally, students use all their new skills to build their very own mini-business to "sell" products or services. This joyful class offers students practical experience at becoming business leaders.
Game On, Grow Strong!
Get ready to move, create, and discover what makes the human body amazing! In this high-energy course, students uncover the science behind sports and exercise through a variety of challenges, games, and hands-on experiments. For half the class period students will play awesome field games like Capture the Flag, Kickball, and fun Basketball challenges. In the classroom, students will build a working finger joint, test how big their lungs really are, and see how their body’s systems team up every time they move. They will discover how to keep their body strong, healthy, and ready for the next game!
Academics

English Language Arts
Students will learn the core concepts and skills of English Language Arts. Students will spend time practicing reading and writing strategies that lie within their grade level band of core instructional standards.
Dual Immersion Spanish Language Arts
This class is for current Baywood and Pacheco Kinder and 1st grade students learning through Spanish-English Dual Language Immersion.
Mathematics
Students will participate in a unique blend of problem solving and skill building activities that reinforce essential mathematical concepts needed for success inside and outside the classroom.
Dual Immersion Math
This math class will be taught in Spanish and is for current Kinder and 1st grade Baywood and Pacheco students learning through Spanish-English Dual Language Immersion.
